Faascape is new web 2.0 mediation service between consumers and producers of free software.

This project allows developers to build web services under an apache V2 licence.

Those services can be hosted on a cloud infrastructure and automatically available for customers.

The Faascape model offers :

• to customers, features provided on a pay-as-you-use basis
• to developers, compensation in the form of proportional payout.
• Opportunity to develop and test your own services on line in a simple very simple way and standard environment (java, hibernate, spring).
• A community environment between users and developers

This ecosystem want to ensure the balanced growth of this sector by maintining its cooperative spirit based on the community effect.

The Faascape project is built around the Faas (Feature as a Service) concept :

• a large number of people, each working on a simple brick
• no big teams with complex organization and heavy tools
• mashing up of the features at the user interface level

Since its launching in April 2009 at the Paris Linux exhibition, the Faascape project has been enriched by the suggestions and comments of web users, first of all open source developers who have opened an account, tested the tool, and taken part in the user forums of the platform.

In a number of professional fairs or events, such as the Carrefour des Possibles (www.carrefourdespossibles.org), the Faascape team has also had many occasions to confront itself to emerging practices in the information society, resulting from the Netbook revolution and the new possibilities of mobility, on-line development, service mashup, etc.

Lastly, Faascape has started partnerships with several universities and benefits from the work of a number of students in training or finishing their studies.

Due to these many contacts, we have been able to assess the needs of computer projects, which are fortunately very numerous and innovative in this period of technological revolution and financial scarcity. They stress on the Cloud Computing revolution, which gives rise to the possibility of a customized hosting, and on the advantage of consuming computer features on line and per use. This advantage has been confirmed by a market study ordered to Markess international (summary available on demand, just sent a contact mail).

The technical breakthroughs that we have achieved on the customer-side platform (invoicing, catalog, customer account opening...) enable us to plan its opening for next January. Faascape will disclose a first sample of ready-to-use services in it. Our platform of intermediation between free software developers and consumers will more than ever need your suggestions, product tests, questions, and offers!
